Obligatory Post on the Buffy Re-Boot

I am not pleased at the idea of a Buffy reboot. I have never wanted a Buffy reboot but the way they're going about it is extra unhappy-making for me.
Why?
- Hulu. Enough said.
- Not enthused about bringing SMG back as Buffy. In my opinion, reboots often are better with a totally new cast and characters. Besides, Wolf Pack actually sucked, in my opinion. Not keen on a repeat of that.
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer is so focused on Buffy the character that I don't know if you could make a BtVS reboot that wasn't about Buffy... she's literally what the show is about. However. You can see how this does not line up with my thoughts above about how all the characters should be new characters.
- Thus, I do not want to see a reboot.
- I'm also worried that they'll sanitize all the "darker" content, especially with the way the morality brigade is these days. The fucked up relationships and also all the whump are one of my favorite things about the Buffyverse shows.
- I also fear this may re-ignite the shipping wars (as bad as they are now, they could be so much worse) especially since I've already seen people saying "It had better be Spuffy!" "It had better be Bangel!" "I will be so so pissed if it's Briley!" Well, all I can say is that if it is Briley, I'll have to watch it out of principal (but it won't be). Plus, there will be new ships which will probably give us new shipping wars.
- Apparently some hardcore fans may be working on it? Which makes me worry about this.

On one hand it can go either way, it can be either underwhelming/not that great in comparison to the original series, or it can actually surprise us and be something good. On the other hand, it does make you question if it's totally necessary. The concerns you bring up are incredibly valid, because I don't want there to be more shipping wars, more issues regarding them sanitizing things or giving into fan demands for the fanservice, which along with the nostalgia is all part of why these reboots exist. It's a cop-out and most of the time it takes away the soul and passion of the original story, imho.
Personally, the only way I can see this working for me is if it is focusing on a new cast but SMG is just reprising her role as Buffy being a mere Giles-esque mentor figure. Because it's been said plenty of times that the Buffyverse has so much lore and so many possibilities especially in regards to Slayers, and I would love for there to be a focus on another Slayer, either past or present. Buffy has had her story told, it's time for another one to shine. That is something I've been incredibly vocal on since all the rumors over the years about the possibility of a BTVS reboot, and now that it seems like it's on the verge of happening I'm just reiterating it.
At the end of the day, these reboots/remakes/sequel series of things are going to happen whether we like it or not. We can just easily ignore it and just go rewatch the main series.
